Kids Update

| | Comments (3)

I have survived a week as an instant parent of two toddlers.

How? I do not know. The Lord had a lot to do with it.

We were blessed to get a fairly well adjusted pair, given their journey to our home. They sleep through the night and on par are like most toddlers I have ever been around.

As a bonus they have absolutely no fear of our dogs and save all the sniffing and licking and general "who are these new dogs in our pack" going on, everyone seems to be getting on great. Though, our younger dog, Buddy, has had to learn the meaning of "no jumping up" and "gentle play" since, he normally likes to be a bit rambunctious.

The only thing that worries me is that many people have said that getting foster kids involves a "honeymoon" period, and that makes me think the other shoe may drop in a few weeks......I'll keep my prayers current just in case.

Websites and Software

I am not a graphics designer.
I am not a professional computer programmer.
I know enough about coding to be dangerous.

Because of this I may never do a whole lot more to improve the look of my blog. Yeah I can understand all the syntax of HTML/PHP and such, but in the last several years I have never had the will (or time) to dive into the various web programming languages.

I taught myself BASIC on a TI99/4A, learned PASCAL in high school and did enough FORTRAN programming to write a simple finite element analysis program for a senior level structural design class. I self taught myself the ins and outs of a certain database program and wrote a pretty decent membership database.

The thing that changed was getting married. It really cut down on my extra curricular learning in the afternoon and evenings...and now there are toddlers in our house... and now all time and learning new programming languages and web customization are gone for a while to come.

That is unless I can make more money fooling with computers than I can as an Engineer....umm no I don't think so...well, not right now.

Pick up Kids... check
Take to our house....check
Feed Kids.....check
Meet new grandparents....check
Clean Kids and get them ready for bed...check
Get kids in bed.......ummmm....ummmm.....check?

Let's see...new house, new parents, new bed, lots of people fussing over you, yeah it's hard to sleep.

The adventure begins in the morning.

PS, I still haven't told the dogs, but they know something is up.

Tomorrow, July 17, 2007, I will become a Father. Well a Foster Father of two toddlers. A boy and a girl. There is a very good chance we will get to adopt these little ones, but for a while to come we will keep them on behalf of the great State of Texas.

Lets say I will soon lean more than I wanted to know about children, the foster care system, my wife and myself.

UGH!

P.S. I haven't told the dogs yet.

Summer Lawn Concert

Went to the Summer Lawn concert over the weekend with the wife. It is nice to make it to one of these, seems like my Sunday evenings have been toooooo... busy lately to make them. Maybe I need to re-arrange my schedule.

Saw Wallace taking photos, and for a while he was not more than 10 feet from me. Thankfully, he has no idea who I am, or I might have to turn in my Jessica's Well blogger card.

Speaking of JW, it has been almost a year since I started blogging there, that is an important milestone because it means the Site Admin might give me a key to the executive washroom. I wonder if Walsingham and Vaughan have decked it out with all that unused economic development money?
